Music, mischief, and murder collide in The Irresistible Rise of Big Daddy Ubu, written and directed by nimbus co-Artistic Director Josh Cragun. This wickedly comic glimpse inside the ganglands of 1930s Chicago follows the rise of Big Daddy Ubu, a killer who'll stop at nothing to overthrow the rival Artichoke Alliance. Together with his wife Ma Ubu, Big Daddy claws his way to the top of Chicago's vegetable rackets only to lose the one thing worth saving: his conscience. Originally performed in 2002, this year's production is a political satire drawing its roots from Bertolt Brecht and Alfred Jarry. The result is a razor-sharp critique of political wheeling and dealing, just in time for the upcoming election season.
